Frequently asked questions
Why does the time difference between two cities change during the year?
Because of daylight saving time. Cities that observe it move their clocks forward in spring and back in autumn, and different countries change on different dates — while many places, like Karachi and Dubai, never change at all. So a gap such as Karachi to New York is 9 hours in summer and 10 hours in winter.
How is the difference calculated?
Each zone's UTC offset is derived live from the IANA time zone database for the exact moment you pick, and the difference is simply one offset minus the other. Nothing comes from a fixed table, so the answer is right on ordinary days and on clock-change days alike.
What do "ahead" and "behind" mean?
If a city is "ahead", its local clock shows a later time than the other city. Karachi is ahead of London: when it is midday in London, it is already late afternoon in Karachi. "Behind" is the opposite — New York is behind Karachi.
